Adult Piano Recital

Mascari Piano Studios Adult Recital

Our 2017 Annual Spring Adult Student Piano Recital in Natick MA

Our annual recital program for the Mascari Piano Studio adult piano students is a more informal program that is graciously hosted at the home of one of our long time Natick MA piano students.

This year, our evening piano recital program consisted of performances by adult students again hosted at the home of Lisa and Jerry Carroll of Natick. Performing at the 7:00 pm recital were students Rick Rosson, Don Winning, Mary Rapa, Ananya Chatterjee, Charles Steele, Lisa Carroll, Linda Duncan and Ken Taylor.

The adult piano students played a wonderful assortment of jazz and classical selections, in displaying a wide range of piano musical styles.

Rick Rosson started things off with two jazz/pop jazz classics Long Ago And Far Away followed by the aptly named Dream A Little Dream Of Me. Rick, a Software Engineer at NEC Energy Solutions in Westboro MA, is from Ashland MA and takes lessons at our Natick MA piano studio. He took classical piano lessons growing up and came to us to learn a wider variety of music.

Don Winning was next in his first recital performance. Don played the pop classic Can’t Help Falling In Love and Franz Schubert’s Marche Militaire. Don is a retired marketing/sales representative. After retiring Don began to study with us as an Adult beginner.

Mary Rapa, a long time student with the Diana Mascari Piano Studio, was next. Mary’s been taking piano lessons with us for over 15 years starting as an adult beginner and enjoys playing a mix of classical and pop tunes. This year she elected to perform the wedding classic Canon In D by Pachelbel. Mary is Director of Nursing at the Learning Center for the Deaf in Framingham, MA.

Bedford, NH resident Ananya Chatterjee was next performing Send In The Clowns followed by the big band classic Sentimental Journey. Ananya is a Financial Analyst for Bank of New Hampshire and began her studies with us 13 years ago.

Charles Steele performed two show tunes that have become jazz standards, Where Or When and I Love Paris. Charles, a massage therapist from Millis, MA took lessons with us during Jr High & High School. He recently returned as an adult to continue his musical growth because of his love of music.

Long time student, Lisa Carroll followed playing the jazz standard Lady Is A Tramp. Lisa took classical piano lessons for 10 years while growing up. She decided to go back to taking piano lessons when her daughter began taking lessons from us about 9 years ago. After renewing some of her piano skills, Lisa became very interested in expanding her musical horizons by learning to play standards. She continues to experiment on the piano by embellishing her song arrangements with interludes and improvisational ideas. Lisa has graciously hosted the Adult Recital for many years and our adult piano students very much enjoy the atmosphere this fun, relaxing home environment provides.

Long time piano teacher and professional pianist/theater organist Linda Duncan was next playing A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square. A Westborough MA resident, Linda recently began studying with us to expand her musical knowledge and playing style. Jim Duncan, Linda Duncan’s husband joined her for a piano duet version of an upbeat medley, The World Is Waiting For The Sunrise and Bye Bye Blues.

Last on the program was long time student Ken Taylor. Upon turning 50, guitarist Ken Taylor decided that the piano would offer him more room for expanding and developing his musical ideas. He still enjoys playing jazz guitar and in addition to playing and arranging standards as solo piano pieces under Diana’s guidance, Ken incorporates technology into his piano playing by creating and arranging song arrangements using Band in Box musical software. Ken’s piano blog Learning to play jazz piano after age 50+ features several of his wonderful recordings and he is also featured on our own piano student showcase. For this recital Ken performed What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life?.

Ken and Diana traditionally conclude each June’s adult student recital with a jazz duet played with one piano-four hands. This year they brought the recital to a wonderful close with their rendition of a medley consisting of the jazz standards Georgia On My Mind and Misty.

Our gracious hosts provided refreshments and a good time was had by all of our wonderful students!
